Passcode: 207516
Exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic
crisis, the ITUC Global
Rights Index
2020 names two worrying trends of breakdown of social dialogue, and systematic
attack on democracy by governments as new threats to trade unions. Asia Pacific
is the second worst region in the world for workers where serious curbs on
fundamental freedoms and civil rights through digital surveillance and
clampdowns on free speech have been noted.
The webinar will focus on the findings pertinent
to the Asia Pacific region. Affiliates from Bangladesh,
Hong Kong, India and the Philippines will speak out about the threats to trade unions and
fundamental freedoms, thoughts and actions that could be taken to stop
violation of fundamental rights. A guest speaker from the ILO will share the views
on the trend and how the ILO Office responds to it through the available tools
on standards application to engage the governments.
