Rights, Peace and Democracy
The ITUC-Asia Pacific promotes the interdependent issues of rights, peace and democracy to create an environment where workers’ fundamental rights and freedoms are guaranteed and can be fully exercised without fear of reprisal.
Organising and Social Dialogue
Organising and Social Dialogue
Organising is key to building workers’ power and consolidating the strength of democratic and independent trade unions. Being organised and recognised as legitimate representatives of the workers also builds the profile of trade unions as an indispensable social partner in social dialogue.
Gender Equality
Gender Equality
Trade unions have led the struggle to achieve gender equality not only in the workplace, but also in their structures, in different areas of policies, and in the society as a whole. ITUC-Asia Pacific guarantees the full integration of women in trade unions and the promotion of full gender parity in leadership bodies and activities at all levels.
Occupational Health and Safety
Occupational Health and Safety
The ITUC-Asia Pacific promotes occupational health and safety as a fundamental right of workers, recognising its critical role in protecting workers’ lives and livelihoods.
SDGs and Just Transition
SDGs and Just Transition
Workers in the region are confronted by the twin challenges of persisting poverty and climate emergency. Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and advancing a Just Transition for workers are integral in eradicating poverty, reducing inequality, and addressing economic and climate challenges.
Youth
Youth
The voices of the youth are not heard enough in the society, politics, and even in trade unions. Young workers have been exposed to many vulnerabilities at work, such as unemployment and job insecurity. Because of these issues, there is an urgent need to get more youth in the mainstream of trade union movement.
Global and Regional Economy
Global and Regional Economy
Undermining fundamental workers’ rights and social dialogue, globalisation has failed to ensure a just social and economic development in Asia and the Pacific region. To counter the adverse impacts of globalisation, the ITUC-Asia Pacific promotes a fair, inclusive, rules-based and democratic economic integration that advances sustainable and resilient growth and benefits all people.
COVID-19
COVID-19
To recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and the multiple crises, the ITUC-Asia Pacific is pushing for a new social contract for recovery and resilience that guarantees decent and climate-friendly jobs with Just Transition; labour rights and a labour protection floor; universal social protection; equality and non-discrimination; and an inclusive development model.
