“Peace, Labour and …”: ITUC-AP Peace Message on the 75th Anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Atomic Bombings
2 August 2020
Shoya Yoshida, ITUC-AP General Secretary, shared his
thought about peace in particular with the young.
He found similar words in the 1951 Novel lecture of Mr. Léon Jouhaux, a French and international
trade union leader, to what he had heard from an Afghan trade union leader:
“War always sacrifices workers”.
“If each of the countries had guaranteed decent working
conditions and allocated part of their military expenditure to a policy to
secure adequate living standards of the people, the war would not have
occurred,” said Shoya Yoshida, ITUC-AP General Secretary.
He appealed to young activists to make the voices of young
people much louder within their organizations and countries, which he said
would be a step forward towards a peaceful world.
