Migrant workers play a vital role in economies across the Asia-Pacific region, yet many face precarious working conditions, exploitation, and barriers to accessing their rights. The Global Compact for Migration (GCM) recognizes the importance of social dialogue—structured, inclusive, and results-driven collaboration between governments, workers, and employers—as a key mechanism to ensure decent work and labour rights for migrant workers.
This side event, jointly organized by ITUC, BWI, IDWF, and PSI, will explore how tripartite and social dialogue mechanisms are shaping migration governance in the region. Discussions will highlight successful collaborations and policy frameworks that advance GCM Objective 6 (Fair and ethical recruitment and decent work for migrants) and contribute to broader migration priorities under Objectives 5, 7, 10, 16, and 17.
Key objectives:
Join us to discuss strategies for enhancing rights-based migration governance and ensuring that all migrant workers can access decent work and fair conditions.
